Free Ain't FREE

What’s really good people?

Am sleepy, tired and even left my house a few days back to go get a cut and didn’t even realize that I had baby throw-up on my head until my peoples in the barbershop started to poke good fun at the kid. I guess a certain little one is going to have to explain herself. HILARIOUS. Well onto the news that Nigeria once again can celebrate its football, please put your hands together and salute your Golden Eaglets on a FANTASTIC display of quality, unity and excellence at the recent Under 17 World Cup just concluded at the UAE. Who knows maybe some of those boys are over the permitted age requirement for the tournament but am sure they were not the only ones cheating. Like they say its only cheating if you get caught abi? Up next is the senior team in 7 days time ready to deliver and punch Nigeria’s World Cup ticket to the Samba capital in 2014. OYA!

Ok people; let me get focused…

Anybody ever heard of the expression “Free Ain’t Free” before? I attended an awards dinner earlier in the week and heard the keynote speaker use this term during his speech and address to the crowd. The minute I heard it, my thoughts were you never lie old man. Come to think of it nothing is FREE. Everything we do, receive or own comes with a cost. RIGHT? Take for example the following;

Slavery, Independence and Civil Rights – the abolishment and obtaining of such freedoms and liberties came with a cost “DEATH”. I don’t recall anybody just being giving a pass to get out of being enslaved, disenfranchised or being discriminated against all because it was the moral thing to do.

Free Lunch– yeah some of us had to survive of that subsidized lunch program during our school years back in the day. Ok I am lying, I was never on the “free lunch program” but from what I could see it was only free because dogs had a more balanced nutritional meal than what our schools were serving the kids. SMH

Bootleg – all of my peoples of certain pigmentation know all about this too well. Be it movies, CDs, knock off name-brands we all done it one time or another. Bottom line is you can’t say you black and never got your hands on some bootleg s**t. The harsh reality is whenever you cop something bootleg or “HOT” what is not free is the peace of mind you would have had if you had just gotten the real thing from the jump.

Trial Periods – how many of you all have mistakenly signed-up for something all because you were told about a special that was running which came with the so called option to cancel but 30 days later they got you because you forgot to cancel and read the fine print. By the time you got yourself out of this nightmare you were paying for a subscription like 10 times over what you would have if you just had said “NO; I AM NOT INTERESTED”. SMH

Lady’s Free All night – that was only until you got to the club at 10pm and was told by the meathead dude working the gate that the advert running on the radio was for only the first 50 ladies that came with their internet passes in hand. HILARIOUS

And you thought…

Na Wa O (NWO)!

Na Wa O! - is slang or a pidgin term used back home in Nigeria and other parts of Africa that simply illustrates something unbelievable, makes you speechless or leaves you flabbergasted.
