This was suppose to be the weekend I started my countdown of GREEN/WHITE skies raining all over the city of Houston, Texas as the Giants of Africa storm the USA to thoroughly thrash the Mexican national team in a International friendly May 31st. Hearing the news of multiple players pulling out from their call-ups and citing phantom injuries as an excuse to not represent our country for these up coming world cup qualifiers and Confederation cup tournament has been mightily disappointing to say the least. One thing the new era of Nigeria football has proven is that NAMES do not win football matches and those who do not hold the prestige of representing their father/motherland dear to their hearts were never worthy of such honor to begin with. So I say to the coach just incase you need late calls up for next Friday’s match, just look up in the stance by the way of row 104/105 you have two brothers ready to jump in the fray; one is a striker 6ft 210 pounds aka…“IBRA” patterns his game after the great IBRA-HI-MO-VIC and DROGBA. The other has a CANNON for a left foot, a world-class left-back and winger, if you don’t know best Google me and check my resume. Oh well, Baba God all we are saying is give NAIJA more GOALS!
OK people; let me get focused…
So here is where things stand in the today; all acts of terror, mass killings and violence should simply be attributed to Muslims and Nigerians of the world huh? I myself remain in shock and dumbfounded as many others over the incident in Woolwich , England in a matter of 72 hours past. What I am growing really tired of is how the media’s primary role and only purpose in every story covered nowadays is the discovery of one’s religious practice or beliefs as the lead in every story. As I grow to be accepting of the fact that we as Nigerians are solely responsible for our own bad public relations domestically and internationally, I take issue with this new trend that continues to attempt to cast many Nigerians as part of some Boko Haram radicals or murderers.
I will never claim such behaviors as part of how the vast majority of my people were raised and thought to fear God. We are not savages contrary to public opinion. Today’s reporting in the news is so over sensationalized and lacks any credibility before being publicized. No Muslim or Nigerian shall excuse nor pardon these types of senseless acts EVER. All this does is just make the climb uphill even harder for the rest of us Muslims and Nigerians in the general population who denounce bloodshed all for the sake of individual gain and propaganda.
I find it very interesting how ones gender, ethnicity or religion is a non-issue when it serves as good publicity or an act of humanity. There are countless number of Muslims and Nigerians who serve as contributing members of their communities in their adopted countries, win honor and accolades all to shine the spotlight in their new homeland with a great sense of pride. It almost feels like all of this is of no significance once the next breaking news hits the airwaves.
PEACE & LOVE!
